Zanzibar Tavern: Toronto, Canada
The "Zanz" as it's affectionately called by regulars is a long running Toronto tavern on the Yonge St Strip which features female dancers.
Almost every tourist, student, and others have been here at least once in their lives. I have too. For the price of a beer you get to watch dancers. The beer is generic.. what would you expect and the dancers are too. Strangely this bar has survived where most of the others have gone. The Nickleodeon, The Coq d'Or, and many of the famous drinking establishments of the "Yonge Street Strip" Steele's, Basel's, the Silver Rail are gone.
So heres a small tribute to a survivor, long in the tooth a little ragged around the edges but still standing. I love neon and this is one of the best. It is fully animated so the sign flashes, and the lights go in sequence as well as 'rotate'. Quite the piece of entertainment.
In my opinion the sign is more entertaining than what is going on inside. Maybe that's just someone who's jaded speaking.
