Benjamin Moore Paint Plant

the Junction, Toronto

The Benjamin Moore Paint factory closed about 5 years ago. Since that time it was a favourite spot for some recreational urban exploration. Although I only visited it twice I could have spent more time shooting. Still you get what you get when indulging in this pastime. This was a three storey plant with an older section with wood beam construction and a modern part of concrete construction. There was a basement level housing the usual heat and power equipment. A rooftop area housed a single room of undeterminable use which was accessible from the third floor. There was still a few remnants of the company’s equipment at the time of the shoot.

These shots were taken in the winter of 2007 during a late February cold spell. It was hardy shooting. Fortunately it was located close by a newly evolving retail shopping area where good hot coffee was available after the shoot.

The plant is now long gone and is one more vacant site in the urban landscape. What will replace it? I do not know.
