Black Creek Tributary/ Graphic Equalizer Drain

This is one of my most favorite drains. I went almost 2 years ago after visiting Westview Greenbelt and Park Drive which probably isn’t the best introduction to drains when one is a n00b. When Sgt. Marshall was in town he asked me which drains I would recommend and instantly thought of this one. Another winter night I dragged Jannx along to be my model (willing, or otherwise). After parking the car near Bunge – another great industrial location, we made our way down an incredibly icy hillside. Getting into the drain proved easier then I would have thought since the gate was open enough for one person to crawl through while another held it open. After indulging in selfie pr0n, we took a few shots and had a break. This was the only drain I have seen any wildlife in—that being a distressed baby raccoon cowering above us in the drop shaft.

This drain is small tributary that empties into a small concrete channel that makes its way down toward another large canal toward Black creek. It has a mix of older looking concrete with a horseshoe shaped tunnel about 2m in height that runs for about 400m-500m until it reaches a junction with a small waterfall and ladder going up to a building’s basement according to siologen, and another tunnel which leads to a clogged up, corrugated metal pipe. If you push on you will find a neat stone culvert that was buried a long time ago. The whole drain is probably less than 700-800m in length and is a short but pleasant explore. It doesn’t have much water moving through it either, so you could get away with doing this one in regular shoes, given the weather. And the name? When uber drainer Siologen found this drain back in 2006, it had a graphic equalizer lashed onto the outfall gate. It went missing soon afterwards, but name is catchy don’t you think?

You didn’t include the excellent drain photo of me! I’m deeply disappointed..
